This is a small detail whittling knife that will come in handy to anyone that likes a little more complexity on their pattern. Showcasing here the quality handle: light and pleasant to hold, doesn’t roll off the table thanks to one of its sides being flat. And the blade as well: all BeaverCraft’s tools are made with high-carbon steel, so they live longer, hold the sharpness better – you’ll see in numerous sources that carbon steel is one of the most optimal materials for wood carving instruments due to its toughness. The shape of this knife’s blade allows you to add both details and small wide cuts with the round part of the blade.
To sum up: an overall nice compact tool for details and general cuts, won’t let you down if you enjoy doing small carvings, caricatures, animals and so on.
Well, Flexcut is kind of classic at the moment, but that’s exactly what I’ve been talking about a little earlier – don’t buy your tools based only on the brand name: it’s not always the guarantee of great quality. However, I can’t say anything too bad about this knife. It’s a nice detail carving instrument, sharp and comfortable to use. It’s a little costly, but might be worth the price for those of us who are tired of constantly looking for new things. Sharp blade, comfortable shaft – all is well for carving any amount of detail.
To sum up: great detail knife, reliable and pleasant to hold. Not for you if you’re economizing on tools though.
This one would be the most comfortable for those people that have never held a woodcarving knife in their hands or don’t like the handle shape of it. Take a look – it has just the usual knife handle that you’ll see in your kitchen all the time! This knife is compact and great for general roughing, wide cuts and working on the silhouette of your future carving. It’s not that good for details or fine lines, but does its job well.
To sum up: a nice compact tool for roughing out the workpiece, nothing more and nothing less. Would be good for beginners that are a little scared of “professional” instruments.
Once again, Flexcut is not for you if you are looking for cheap tools, but it is known to be worthy of its price. Sharp thin tip, narrow blade make it easy and exciting for you to draw the details with the knife. The materials are all appropriate and comfortable to work with, so the only stopper here for me would be the price – that’s subjective to each and every one of us, so feel free to take a look and decide for yourself.
To sum up: a proper detail whittling instrument, expensive but reliable. Effortless to carve with and sharpen – take a look!
Well, this instrument is useful for another big part of whittling hobby that is chip carving. The blade shape is great for chipping away wood as well as adding lines with the tip (not the finest ones though). Comfortable shaft to carve with, sharp carbon steel – a greatly useful tool for everyone who enjoys chipping patterns on the wood. It would also be nice for some small carvings such as caricatures and so on since you can add some details with the tip. You’re welcome to experiment!
To sum up: a nice instrument for chip carving and a little detailing, but my recommendation would be to use it solely for chip carving as the blade shape is mostly cut out for that. Presumably comes sharpened, but might require a little more work on your side.
