These days it’s easy to get stuck with lots of coronavirus news. Lockdown makes us get adjusted to the new way of living. Annoying question what to occupy yourself with keeps arising day by day. This is why I decided to gather up as many whittling projects as possible in one place. So you could cheer yourself up with something interesting as well as I could do the same by getting back to the article time after time. Moreover, I believe it would be useful even after the lockdown. So make sure to share it somewhere on your page or just save it to bookmarks.
You might need to get some wood for the projects below. I would highly recommend getting basswood as it is the softest one. It’s easy to carve and color. It actually feels like butter. It’s my favorite actually. I love everything connected with woods, all kinds of fairy tales and stories. This is why the wood spirit is number one on my list of whittling projects. I did one a long time ago. Probably, it’s time to make one these days. I checked a bunch of tutorials on Youtube to find the most informative ones. The following wood spirit carving tutorial is actually the best one. Check it out and message me with your favorite ones if you have one.
Who doesn’t love bears right? First, teddy bears come to mind. While bears out of wood can be even better. Moreover, they last longer as wood is more durable. I made a lot of bears. I gifted some wood bears to my niece and friends’ kids. They always love getting small bears from me. A great wood carving tutorial on wood bear carving is made by Doug Linker. He’s a talented carver sharing a lot of valuable content with his subs. It’s not that easy to find a good tutorial on wood bear whittling with hand tools as mostly, people prefer making large bears with a chainsaw and other electric tools. I’m not a fan of electric tools, I always stick to hand tools.
The same love to fairy tales here. Wooden gnome as well as wood spirit, and small bear carvings follow the same style of caricature carving. Mostly such small whittling projects take not so much time. So you can do them one by one.
Wood whittling is extremely relaxing. It can help to go through various difficulties in life. While it’s a matter of time to learn a new hobby. At the times of boredom, a small leprechaun is racing to the rescue. You can paint in any way you want it to be. Make it a green leprechaun whittling project, or brown. There is no limit to your imagination.
We’re used to rubber ducks, but how about carving a duck out of wood. It could be a great toy for kids and yourself. Paint it any color you want. Yellow is the most common one.
Rabbit out of basswood is easy to whittle yourself. It’s small, this is why you need a small wooden blank. Moreover, it will be a great symbol of happy days in the woods that you’re going to have some time soon.
If you’re only beginning carving out of wood, then make sure to try making a ball in a cage out of wood. It’s considered to be one of the easiest whittling projects for beginners. This project allows getting some skills first. It’s not that cute as wooden rabbit or a gnome, while you’d be able to master some basic cuts.
Perfect project for any “love” occasion. You can gift it to your loved ones on Saint Valentine’s Day or any other sharing love event.
It’s a great idea to make a kuksa or two. Kuksa can be used in household or for camping as a drinking cup. What could be better than eco-friendly drinking cup?
Get prepared to the Halloween with pumpkin carving out of wood. It’s unusual and smart. All your friends will be carving real pumpkins, while you can make one out of wood and have it for Halloween celebration for years. Is it convenient? It is indeed.

There are some carvers that carve only mushrooms. They find something special in mushroom carving. Maybe you’ll find it yourself as well.
A combination of two, mushroom and gnome turned out in a mushroom gnome whittling project. Funny one!

If you’re limited with tools and wood, then a simple stick whittling project would be a great idea to go with.
I’m a huge fan of dogs. I have several dog carvings. And this one is on my list as well now.
Somehow it reminds me of Giles Newman. But it’s not his project. While it’s still beautiful. Small eagle whittling project will fit those that are into something exquisite.
One more funny project. Carve a ball dude. I am bald myself. So probably this is why I put this one on the list of whittling projects I’m going to do myself.

Easter is coming soon. Not sure we’re going to celebrate it as we’re used to because of the latest changes in the world. But still, it’s a great whittling project to make yourself. We still, can celebrate it online, right?
Fly away with bird carving.
As I mentioned above it’s a nice opportunity to feel the special Viking atmosphere by carving a dragon kuksa and Viking wood spirit.
I bet Mike Stinnet would love it. An old man with a walking stick. I would make a small doggie as well and this way it will be a full picture.
Again it’s a great project if you’re limited with tools and wood.
How about some magic to get rid out a daily routine? Wizard carving is a perfect way to treat yourself some magic.
Funny cowboy carving. Make one, take some whiskey and imagine yourself a cowboy doing some cool things with his friend.
Nice whistle carving idea. Practical and mellifluent.
I put some bird carving above on the list. But love this one as well. It’s the tiniest birdy I have ever seen. Good to make one.
Not jewelry but still, fun to do such chain out of wood.

I’d recommend getting the whole idea first on how to carve chess pieces and then carve those yourself.
